At 25km in length, the southernmost 12km of which is undivided and uncontrolled-access, 406 is a long way from being Ontario's most magnificent highway I'm afraid. Linking the QEW to the Welland metropolis, 406 boasts a particularly windy expressway section roaring through St. Catharines. Of the 5 interchanges the all-express link with Hwy 58 (and from there to the Thorold Tunnel) is the most notable.
No paved hard shoulders, which is unforgivable in this day and age. Numerous bends that struggle to accomodate freeway speeds. And to top it all off, the exits aren't numbered.
What can I say people, I'm not a big fan of Highway 406. When the MTO finally get's around to upgrading the undivided section to 400-series standard then I'll write another review.
