If you head North from Whitby on joint Highway 12 / 7, you will eventually hit this junction West of Lindsay. This is the point where 12 and 7 go their separate ways. 12 continues North towards Orillia, 7 heads East to Lindsay, Peterborough and ultimately, Ottawa.

The Central Ontario Route of the Trans-Canada Highway follows 12 South from Orillia, and makes a sharp left here to follow 7 East. So, two things: One, heading North from Whitby as I was, this is where the Ontario King's Highway you've been driving on also becomes the Trans-Canada Highway (whether you turn on to Hwy 7 or not). That's a cool thing to think about as you motor along.

Second, and most importantly, this unassuming junction is the single nearest point that the Trans-Canada Highway ever gets to the City of Toronto, the nations largest metropolitan area.
